A revamped promiscuous strategy will be available to node runners with our upcoming release – Riga, a brilliant feature for node runners trying to maximise the traffic sent through their node and, ultimately, the tokens they earn 🤑
🟡 What is the promiscuous strategy? 🟡
Promiscuous strategy is an automated payment channel management strategy you can opt-in to use with your node. Currently, the default strategy for a node is “passive”, which means that the node will not try to open or close payment channels itself, and all channel management is manual.
When you switch to the promiscuous strategy in the next release, your node will start opening channels with peers it has a high-quality connection with, and at the same time, it will close channels:
1️⃣ That have insufficient funds staked in them
2️⃣ That are with peers you have a low-quality connection with
The connection quality is determined by the heartbeat mechanism
🟡 How does the promiscuous strategy work? 🟡
The strategy considers the following parameters:
✅ Connection quality threshold = 0.5
✅ Initial stake = 0.1 mHOPR
✅ Minimum stake = 0.01 mHOPR
✅ Minimum Node balance = 0.1 mHOPR
✅ Maximum number of open channels = sqrt of total visible peers
So, if Node A has 100 visible peers, the strategy will open up to a maximum of ten channels (sqrt 100). If it finds a peer with which it has a high-quality connection (above 0.5), it will attempt to open a channel with them, as long as:
1️⃣ There are not already ten or more channels open
2️⃣ The node’s balance is not below 0.1 mHOPR
If the above are satisfied, it will open a channel with the node and stake 0.1 mHOPR in it. It will repeat this process until it either reaches the maximum number of channels or exhausts the available high-quality peers.
And if a channel either drops below the minimum stake of 0.01 mHOPR or the quality of the connection drops below 0.5, it will close it and try to find a high-quality alternative.
This is a simple strategy, but we expect it to improve the network's topology significantly. Having well-funded channels to peers with high-quality connections makes your node an optimal target for relays and, in turn, increases the amount of tokens you earn as a node runner. 💰

⚠️ To continue participating in our network, you have to re-stake HOPR tokens in Staking Season 6 and lock your Network registry NFT.
If you don't do this, your peerID will not appear on the network dashboard, and you will become ineligible for rewards.
P.S. make sure you are using the same staking address as before, or else we won't be able to connect your peerID to your staking wallet to distribute rewards.

It’s time for HOPR Staking Season 6! 🔥💰
Season 6 will run from January 26th 2pm CET to April 26th 2pm CEST.
The parameters have changed again, to ensure we’re mostly rewarding active participants:
👉 Base APR has changed from 2.5% to 1.25%
👉 Boost cap has increased from 200,000 to 250,000
👉 New network rewards for node runners will start soon
To get started, head to once the season ends to unstake.
Just press the Unlock button to automatically receive your xHOPR stake, wxHOPR rewards and NFTs.
Then head to to restake in Season 6.
🚨 Remember to unwrap your wxHOPR first with our wrapper widget:
When the season launches, you’ll notice the UI has received a much-needed overhaul!
You’ll also see new rows for our network rewards: one for next expected reward and another showing cumulative earnings this season.
The first reward period will start in a few weeks, to allow everyone time to unstake and migrate their NFTs.
If you want to keep your node linked to the same address, just restake the NFT in the Season 6 contract.
If you want to change addresses, you’ll need to reregister your node in the network registry contract, or wait until we automatically sync the registry in around a week. ⏳
