Dear Node runners,
Hopr uses UDP traffic to determine its external IP address and detect if the process is running on an exposed host. We have improved the docker command and added additional UDP ports.
For the moment, this is related to users who are running their nodes using Docker. Please update your nodes:
For Avado and Dappnode, this fix will be available next week.

What happened at HOPR last week? 👀🟡
Here’s a tl;dr 👇
🟡 The big news of last week was, of course, RPCh, which we launched at ETH Denver 🚀
🟡 It’s live now and you can try it for yourself here: access.rpch.net
🟡 Founders @SCBuergel and @rikzrk were at ETH Denver all week showing off RPCh to interested wallets and projects
🟡 @SCBuergel gave a talk at about restoring some much-needed shade to the dark forest
🟡 We also hosted an awesome Twitter Space about RPCh
🟡 But it wasn’t all RPCh, we also celebrated switching to our decentralized subgraph live with TheGraph
🟡 And continued with our first reward period for the new network rewards
What an amazing week for HOPR and RPCh, and we’re only just getting started!

Later today HOPR founder @SCBuergel will be live on stage at #ETHDenver2023 migrating the HOPR subgraphs to TheGraph decentralized network from @thegraph
📅 March 3rd

📍 Reynard Social
We’ve always loved TheGraph. It’s the best indexing mechanism in web3 and an essential component in our:
👉 DAO voting
👉 Staking mechanism
👉 And network dashboard
But the shift to their decentralized network is a welcome upgrade, increasing resilience and removing centralization from our data indexing layer

RPCh is the first and only private gateway to the blockchain, but how does it actually work?
🟡 The Concept 🟡
No single entity or intermediary other than you/your wallet should be able to correlate your IP address and your requests/responses. There are also considerations that need to be made for:
1️⃣ Data tampering
2️⃣ Return pathing
3️⃣ Incentivization
4️⃣ Traffic analysis
5️⃣ Adaptive privacy
These are all outlined in our roadmap, but this thread will just look at how RPCh makes it so no one can link your communication with the blockchain to your IP address.
🟡 The Architecture 🟡
Read this thread to see an overview of the architecture that makes your wallet private from not just your RPC provider but anyone on the relay.

Dear community!
Thanks for participating in RPCh Alpha.
With your help we identified a small bug which caused major instability.
A brief explanation: exit nodes were expecting the same time stamp as the sending time, which caused them to reject messages if the time stamp incremented by even a second. Adding a small delay tolerance should resolve the issue.
We’ll be releasing a patch to address it 🚀

Dear community,
TLDR on RPCh status:
- sometime earlier today there was increased instability when using RPCh
- the investigation has shown that some nodes were running out of memory
- we also found that RPCh setup was missing a critical configuration (force restart the node when it uses more than 2GB of memory) -> this was quite ambiguous in the docs so we will be updating that to stress the importance of restarting the node when its more than 2GB as when you reach that level the node becomes unstable
- we have launched 5 nodes which operate with the new configuration + added support to observe them through grafana
- new rpc-server update which blocks spammy requests (>100 segments gets blocked)
- new rpc-server update now timeouts requests in 20 seconds (previously 10 seconds)

Due to an issue during the minting process the APR amounts for the Patient Supporters NFT were incorrect for diamond and gold ranks. To fix, we just minted the new "Even More Patient" NFT to make up the difference.
The new NFTs are in your wallets and can be staked now.

Attention node runners!
It’s the first network reward period, running from 2pm CET today until 2pm CET on Wednesday March 8th 🚀
We’ll be basing rewards solely on uptime for this first period, using pingbot. Therefore the ping counts have been reset for the community leaderboard. You can check your current ping count and your estimated network rewards at
Later today these estimated figures will also be viewable in
Remember, the estimated rewards are based on the current state of the leaderboard and can go both up AND down depending on the behaviour of your node and other participants.
If you’re still on the waitlist, don’t worry, we have good news for you too tomorrow 🥳
Remember to update your nodes to our latest release: Monte Rosa 1.92
🟡 Installation Process 🟡
Avado & Dappnode users will have to update their nodes with the latest release using their hash as described below. This is because the latest release has not been pushed to the Dappstore but is still accessible via its hash 👇
➡️ Dappnode users can still install the latest release using the IPFS as documented here:

Dear community,
We’re launching Monte Rosa 1.92. This comes with a few new features important for all node runners! 🥳
🟡 Network Rewards 🟡
As promised, starting with this release, we are issuing rewards to our best-performing node runners, distributed in 2-week cycles. A cycle will start and end bi-weekly on a Wednesday, with the first cycle running from 22/02/2023 to 08/03/2023.
All node runners on the latest release will have their uptime measured across these two weeks, and 120,000 HOPR tokens will be split amongst them at the end of the cycle, depending on their performance. Overall, one million HOPR tokens will be distributed to node runners this season. 💰
Note: The first couple of cycles will measure uptime, but the performance metric may change in the future. You can view your node’s uptime at network.hoprnet.org
🟡 HOPR Admin UI has been decoupled from HOPRd 🟡
HOPR Admin becoming a standalone app has several benefits for HOPRd. It separates the toolchain, so it no longer has to run inside HOPRd, improving resilience and allowing the community to edit and improve the UI through bounties or other incentivized programs.
You may remember filling out the HOPR Admin feedback form some weeks ago:
But an additional command must be run for node runners using Docker to use HOPR Admin. This has been updated in the docs:
🟡 Promiscuous Strategy 🟡
We’ve migrated and re-implemented an updated version of the automated channel management strategy: Promiscuous mode.
Using this strategy will allow your node to automatically open high-quality connections while closing underfunded channels or ones connected to a node with which you have a low-quality connection.
You can read up on how the strategy works here:
🟡 How to use Promiscuous Mode 🟡
Just edit your channel management strategy through HOPR Admin as shown in the docs:
🟡 Grafana Dashboards 🟡
This release promised access to the Grafana dashboards for all node runners (not just Dappnode users). And we plan to do so, but through a hotfix that will be added within the next sprint. Currently, only Dappnode users can access Grafana, as documented here:
🟡 Extra features 🟡
This release is big in terms of feature set and stability, with capability-based authorization, customizable automatic pathing, re-introducing our fund command, implementing manual ticket redemption, and a host of bug fixes and optimizations for stability. A lot of this will be covered in tomorrow’s DevUpdate.
🟡 Avado/Dappnode Installation Process 🟡
Avado & Dappnode users will have to update their nodes with the latest release using their hash as described below. This is because the latest release has not been pushed to the Dappstore but is still accessible via its hash 👇
➡️ Dappnode users can still install the latest release using the IPFS as documented here:
➡️ Avado users as documented here:
➡️ VPS/Laptop users will find a new docker command and requirements here:

It’s the final part of our Road to RPCh story!
As the whole team works together to test the latest version of RPCh, learn about the hard work and research that goes into taking a product from a loose idea to a real working service that can handle the needs of real wallets as clients
This is the last part of the series (for now), but we hope you enjoyed this small insight behind the scenes of developing a crypto project, and we can’t wait for you to try RPCh for real (and for node runners to start relaying RPCh data!)
